Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine was founded as the Obihiro Higher Technical School of Veterinary Medicine in 1941. Throughout its 80-year history, the school has continued to develop in order to keep pace with the changing times and academic developments. The basic policy of our university is to contribute to the local communities and international society through human resource training in the advancement fundamental and applied research related to veterinary medicine, agriculture, and animal husbandry. This is where we are at our strongest. Making the best use of this advantageous educational and research environment, our university promotes education and research in the following fields: utilization of biotechnology such as genetic engineering at the molecular level of organisms utilization of animals and plants at an individual level, food production and processing, nutrition and function of food, crop rotation, and utilization of biomass energy. We are the only university in Japan that has "the preservation of food safety" as one of its core principles and objectives. We think it is our mission to establish of environmentally-friendly and sustainable agriculture that is recognized throughout the world.
