Joetsu City has versatile geographical features including the plain, mountain, and coast with beautiful sights and various natures with the semi-national park and prefectural natural park.
In this region, four seasons are clearly recognized: a lot of snowfall in winter due to the seasonal wind from the continent; the areas excluding the coast are the heavy snowfall zone that is famous in Japan.
