Hyogo University of Teacher Education is located in Kato City, northwest of Osaka and Kobe in the southern part of Hyogo Prefecture. It takes about an hour and ten minutes to reach Kato by car from the Osaka or Kobe metropolitan area.
As of April 2025, Kato has a population of 39,175 and covers an area of 157.55 square kilometers.
The city is blessed with a mild climate and rich natural surroundings, including the expansive Ureshino Highlands formed by the Kako and Tojo river basins and the fertile plains that stretch along the Kako River from western to southern Hyogo. Kato is a beautiful and peaceful town with abundant greenery and a relaxed atmosphere.
Founded in 722 as the estate of Saho Temple, Kato has prospered since ancient times. The city still preserves many cultural assets, such as Choko-ji Temple, a designated national treasure.
During the Meiji era, Kato developed into one of Hyogo’s regional centers with the establishment of the county office, courthouse, branch of the Legal Affairs Bureau, and prefectural branch office.
Kato is also home to the Kato International Association, which actively promotes cultural exchange and friendship between local residents and international students.
