Fukuoka Prefectural University has two faculties—the Faculty of Integrated Human Studies and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Nursing—and two graduate schools through which it pursues its educational and research objectives.
The Faculty of Integrated Human Studies and Social Sciences is made up of the Department of Public Sociology, the Department of Social Welfare, and the Department of Human Development and Education. These departments aim to foster the development of well-informed, perceptive and discerning professionals capable of resolving social issues either individually or in collaboration with other experts. The principal objective held by the Department of Nursing within the Faculty of Nursing is to cultivate highly-trained, compassionate and confident nursing professionals capable of responding independently and creatively to health issues and medical emergencies. In 2009, the university introduced a range of specialized collaborative subjects that can be studied in the Faculty of Integrated Human Studies and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Nursing. Since the start of the 2015 academic year, a university-wide cross-disciplinary education program giving students the opportunity to develop their professional skills irrespective of their departmental affiliation has also been in effect. This university-wide education program consists of The Health and Welfare Information Education Program, The Assistance Skills Training Program, The International Exchange Program, and The Career Development Support Program. The university also offers a Master’s degree in Human and Social Studies in a bid to develop specialists capable of contributing to the realization of an advanced welfare society by virtue of their superior knowledge of local communities, social-support facilities, and welfare policies. The corresponding Master’s degree in Nursing aims to imbue nursing experts, researchers, and educators with the professional skills necessary to facilitate the development of more effective policies in the fields of local health, medicine, and welfare. Fukuoka Prefectural university’s Affiliated Research Institute was established to promote practical research and education in the fields of health and welfare, in lifelong development, and in society generally. The institute also undertakes community support activities and collaborates with various institutions both inside and outside the university in order to further improve the university’s academic research standards and contribute to the creation of an advanced welfare society. The School Refusal and Hikikomori Support Center provides specialized support to children who are either refusing to go to school or are otherwise withdrawn from society. The principal aim in this regard is to help the children reintegrate and become socially independent. The Social Contribution and Volunteer Support Center supports a variety of social-welfare based activities by students with a particular emphasis on volunteer work, while the Information Processing Center manages the campus information network system (campus LAN), facilitates information processing (statistical processing), and contributes to information-processing education. The Nursing Practice Education Center, meanwhile, provides students with a degree of practical nursing experience with an emphasis on specific behavior training. Finally, the Graduate School of Human and Social Sciences is equipped with a psychological education counseling room where clinical psychology training is conducted for students majoring in clinical psychology. |
