The university aims to be "a research university devoted to education while remaining open to both local and global communities," with two key goals: (1) To pioneer a new era in the 21st century, and (2) To contribute to the promotion of world peace and the sustainable development of humanity. Kanazawa University offers a highly diverse undergraduate education through 20 schools. It also comprises seven graduate schools and one integrated graduate school, and takes pride in conducting cutting-edge research as one of Japan's leading institutions for the globalization of higher education. In 2014, Kanazawa University was selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's (MEXT) Top Global University Project. Under the theme of "Fostering human resources to lead the global society and establishing the Kanazawa University brand through thorough internationalization," Kanazawa University has been promoting university reforms necessary for globalization for ten years, positioning itself as a hub of knowledge in East Asia. Building on the outcomes of that initiative, in 2024, the university was selected for the successor project: the Support Project for Creating Social Impact through University Internationalization. This project has three main objectives. First, to establish a framework for international collaborative learning both domestically and internationally through partnerships with regions where the university conducts educational and research activities. Second, to promote the overseas dispatch of Japanese students and to attract and retain outstanding international students. The third objective is to create a virtuous cycle in which the two initiatives mentioned above interact, thereby further advancing the university’s internationalization and realizing a multicultural society. This will lead to proposals for solving domestic and global challenges, the implementation of solutions in society, and ultimately the creation of "social impact." As of 2025, Kanazawa University has concluded exchange agreements with 348 institutions across 64 countries and one region. In 2024, the number of international students reached 1,119 and continues to grow. We are committed to building a Global Innovation Campus where students of diverse nationalities learn together and continuously generate new value, while fostering and producing Kanazawa University brand talent who will lead the next generation. |
