Located in the center of Honshu Island, Aichi Prefecture has played host to many great feudal warlords who shaped Japan's history.
In modern times, many great companies, including Toyota Motor Corporation, Nippon Sharyo (railroad car manufacturer), and Noritake (tableware manufacturer), are headquartered in Aichi.
Toyohashi, located in the southeastern corner of Aichi Prefecture, enjoys a warm climate, a low cost of living, and easy access to Nagoya, Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe by Shinkansen.
Surrounded by sea and mountains, Toyohashi also boasts a stunning natural environment. This natural bounty means there are many interesting places to visit. The vast Pacific Ocean is just a short bike ride south of TUT's campus, home to Japan's longest beach, Omotehama Beach. This beach is popular for a variety of activities, including surfing, fishing, and picnicking, and is also famous as a nesting ground for loggerhead turtles. The city is bordered by Mount Ishinomaki to the north, and the hills to the east are home to popular tourist attractions such as the Toyohashi Nature Walk and Imou Marshland.
